I’ve noticed that growing older is NOT really a linear process. Not really. Yes, each year the number goes up, but the number doesn’t always match the mindset. Like you could still poop your pants at 25. I hope you don’t…because that is what we call ABNORMAL behavior, but you could. But seriously, don’t.
I was sitting in a park with a friend yesterday, watching children play. And we both realized how creepy we must look watching children when none of them were ours. And how creepy we must look for playing on equipment when we’re all 20 + years-old.
Right out of college is like the Jan Brady of life. Too young to be old, but too old to be kid young. I know the Jan Brady can apply to many times of our life, especially since everyone goes through middle school and middle age… But there’s something especially disorienting taking those first steps out of the college campus to the hard office tile at work. Like our first baby steps into the flourescent-lighted life that God intended.
I say have your cake and eat it, too. Since we’re too old to be young, take the responsibilty and all the freedom that comes with it. But at the same time, we’re too young to be old, so don’t forget to play. Go swing at the park or fly a kite. But still, don’t poop your pants…
